Thinner, breathable and adaptable upper
One of the biggest changes is in the upper. Saucony has opted for a lighter and more breathable engineered mesh , which significantly improves breathability compared to the Speed 4. The feeling when you put them on is one of greater freshness and a better fit, with an interior that adapts to the foot without pressure and with that touch of elasticity that is appreciated on long runs or hot days.
Midsole unchanged... but with more sparkle
The successful combination of PWRRUN PB with a nylon plate throughout the midsole is maintained , preserving the formula that has given this shoe a well-deserved reputation among those looking for a versatile option for fast training or even competitions.
However, there are subtle changes that improve the experience. One of them is the full-length longitudinal groove , which runs the entire length of the sole and provides a smoother transition from foot strike to toe-off. Additionally, a rigid piece has been added to the midfoot , providing greater lateral stability without compromising forefoot flexibility.
Redesigned plate: less wing, more control
One of the most significant changes is the new nylon plate. To give you a visual, the old version had two lateral wings in the midfoot that protruded slightly from the midsole. The updated Endorphin Speed 5 retains the wing on the medial side, but the lateral one is reduced. Furthermore, while the plate is very flexible, it incorporates localized rigidity in the midfoot , aiming for better motion control without sacrificing propulsion efficiency. This adjustment improves cornering feel and provides a slightly more stable stride compared to the previous version.
More robust and functional sole
The sole has been redesigned with increased rubber coverage in the heel , enhancing durability and providing better traction during longer strides or at moderate paces. The tread patterns have also been modified to improve grip on various surfaces.
