The forge of Speedgoat

Karl Meltzer is a legend of world ultratrail running. At the age of 52, no one has won more races over 100 miles in the history of trail running. The American ultrarunner who won the Hard Rock 100 five times, as well as being the former record holder for running the Appalachian Trail in 45 days, 22 hours, 38 minutes.

He is known as Speedgoat and in its reference figure Hoka One One started a series of shoes that are a world reference in Trail Running. The Hoka One Speedgoat 5 are the latest evolution of this celebrated and acclaimed model.

Fly along the trails and tracks

"Go everywhere, run everything". Karl Meltzer' s philosophy permeates everything in the Speedgoat. We're talking about super versatile trail running shoes that are at their best from half marathon distances onwards.

Version 5 of the Speedgoat democratisation of the model: the spectrum of users who can use them is wider because they have been adapted to more distance and speeds that can be demanded.

"Downwards" Renewal

Hoka One does not play with quality. What has been reduced is the weight of the running shoes. The Speedgoat 5 has been revamped, reducing the weight by 21 g compared to the Hoka Speedgoat 4 and gaining 1 mm in ground clearance.

How has this reduction been achieved?

One of the main changes compared to the previous version is the changes implemented in the upper. Hoka One One technicians have decided to go for a double layer of polyester Jacquard Mesh compound which improves the comfort sensations and adds lightness to the whole. It is a Vegan compound that provides a secure hold on the foot. Its maximum performance is obtained in curves and technical descents where this blocking prevents the foot from moving and transmitting that horrible sensation of loss of stability.

CMEVA compound

The midsole is based on Hoka One classics, but improved. Don't touch what works, right? That's why CMEVA compound is still used in the midsole. Again, it is combined with EVA foam to achieve that balance between cushioning and momentum when launching the stride.

The design changes have not affected the essence of the running shoe and the feeling of comfort after several tens of kilometres remains unchanged as it could not be otherwise.

A sole to match

The Speedgoat5features a Vibram MegaGrip outsole with Traction Lugs technology. They have a renewed 5mm tread pattern that provides better traction and excellent performance in any type of terrain. In addition, the Vibram Megragrip ensures the durability that has made the Speedgoat a benchmark in the mountains.
